Hey Giancarlo! The lanterns fall down once the fuel is consumed. Then the festival organisers roam through the desert and pick them up. The festival is in a state protected area and the authorities fly over it with drones to check that everything is picked up and cleaned. According to the event the garbage that is collected surpasses the garbage that is produced. That being said, the festival produces a lot of trash like most things we modern humans do…
