Set intentions
One of the main lessons of this journey is the importance of releasing control but setting intentions.
Day 37: Mindelo, Cabo Verde. We have completed the first long leg of the Atlantic (six days of sailing from Gran Canaria), and are docked in port in Mindelo, which is a staple stopover for sailboats between Europe and the Caribbean. We have spent several days on land resting after the rough but beautiful stretch of open waters. There’s an atmosphere of expectation and adventure in the lively marina, which has a floating bar and is full of sailors carrying backpacks and supplies onto the boats.
Yesterday we took the ferry to the neighbouring island of Santo Antão, which, according to one of the local guys that we’ve talked to, is the most beautiful island of the archipelago of Cabo Verde. As we’ve done on every stop, we asked the universe to provide us an itinerary and set some intentions: we wanted to hike, and we wanted to eat local food.
It took exactly 15 minutes from we arrived on the island to the waiters in the café of the port had placed us on a van to Val de Paul, where we did a stunning trek up the agricultural terraces, to a volcano crater where with a single, tiny kiosk run by a lady who served us home-made cachupa (a Cabo Verdian corn stew) with fresh fish and boiled eggs.
Thank you, universe, thank you, Cabo Verde!
