An invitation to slow down, explore, and see the world through a different lens

This winter, you have a chance to step outside your routine and experience a place of turquoise waters and stunning reefs, where people honor tradition and life moves at the rhythm of nature.

Full disclosure: this newsletter is a bit different from the newsletters I’ve shared in the past. It is not a story from my journey, an insight or afterthought, but a short update followed by an invitation.

What I’ve been up to this year

Earlier this year, I decided to slow down the pace of my travels and make Panama my home base—for now. Since then, I have built an expedition program for small groups of adventurers ready to trade some of the comforts of conventional travel for a real adventure: making Falkor their home for a week, sharing the work of living aboard, creating time for conversations that rarely fit into everyday life, and leaving room for the unexpected.

It has been an opportunity to create an experience out of the ordinary, where I draw on my combined insights from 18+ years leading expeditions in remote areas and 8+ years of research on the good life in the outdoors, inviting you on a journey that is also a course in practical philosophy, where we will reflect on how people relate to nature and community, and give meaning to their lives.

Since then, we’ve organised three week-long expeditions and built a small team working to bring this vision into being. Now, as the sailing season approaches, I’m opening the invitation to new people.

Your invitation

Over the last few months, we have prepared for the sailing season in Guna Yala, which runs from December to April.

I’m creating these expeditions for people who are curious about the world and hungry for something beyond the ordinary holiday. People who want to participate in the everyday challenges of sailing, who value depth over comfort, and who find as much joy in a shared meal or an unexpected encounter as in reaching a beautiful destination.

I like to think of Falkor as a floating creative hub where you can play, explore, and participate in an evolving storytelling project and real adventure. The itineraries change according to weather, crew, and conditions, and are focused on learning the basics of sailing, freediving on the reefs, hiking pristine rainforests, and spending time in local villages in one of Latin America’s most interesting Indigenous regions.

What makes Falkor special is not just where we go, but how we go there and how we show up. It is queer-friendly and a space where everyone is invited to come as they are. I strive to create a familial atmosphere on board, where people from different walks of life come together, share responsibilities, learn from one another, and make space for genuine connection.

More information

If this sounds like your kind of adventure, you can find more information on the expedition webpage, or simply reply to this newsletter and tell me you’re interested.

Over the coming months, I’ll share more stories, pictures, and videos from life aboard Falkor, along with updates on the journey ahead. I hope they’ll give you a glimpse of this part of the world — and perhaps inspire you to join us.

“From the beginning, I knew this trip would change my life. I am going home more hungry for life, for what’s out there, for things that I have either been afraid to do on my own or things that will get me out of my bubble or comfort zone.” — Ernesto, May 2026

This project has been made possible by the passion and generosity of friends and strangers alike. If you know someone who might love this kind of experience, I’d be grateful if you forwarded this letter to them.

Perhaps I’ll see you aboard.

Cheers, Tomas
